I think I broke it
I was working on a sewing project last night and the fabric I was working with was very thick. I passed it under the needle and my machine made a weird noise and just stopped. I ripped the fabric out from the knotted thread, and put in a new needle that is for heavy weight fabric. But again the machine would stop after a few stitches and make a funny noise. I then decide maybe my machine cant handle this type of fabric, so I tried to sew a few stitches in something very thin. And again the same thing happened. Have I broken my brand new sewing machine??? Please help!!

Oh, no! I have no idea. It should be able to do that...if you may have to take it somewhere to let them look at it. I take mine to the guy next door to JoAnn's on 6 and Settler's Way. I hope it's nothing serious!
It sounds like something mine does that every now and then. Check to see if the thread underneath got caught up somehow. I usually just turn one of the knobs and it gets unstuck. (Can you tell how well I know the names of the parts of the sewing machine:))
i would agree with sarah, sometimes my thread in the bobbin underneath gets caught, and is impossible!! so try to fix that, heck, maybe just re-thread the whole thing! and, yes, there is a fix it guy next to jo ann's.
One other thought is that your needle got bent when you were sewing with the thick fabric. This can also easily happen if you have the habit of pulling the fabric through rather than letting the it flow on its own. Try replacing the needle - its only a guess, but it's all I've got. Good luck!
This happened to me to...my sewing machine was still relatively new so I returned it. Walmart took it back no questions asked and I got a new one.
